Our Story

A little bit of history weaves the fabric of who we are.

LCNW's journey is one of continuous evolution. What began as a solution to a logistics challenge grew into a hub for advanced manufacturing. The roots of LCNW go back to logistics challenges in the 1980s. At that time, inefficiencies in air transport containerization created an opportunity for new systems that improved both speed and accuracy.

1992: A Solution is Born

In 1992, Pacific Air Cargo Transfer Systems, Inc. (PACTS) introduced a portable caster deck system for air cargo containers, enabling containerization to occur anywhere, not just in dedicated facilities. The innovation was quickly adopted by major technology and logistics companies, including Microsoft, Intel, FedEx, and DHL, streamlining package handling across their operations.

1998: The Birth of Laser Cutting NW

By 1997, a major 52-city PACTS system rollout for the United States Postal Service highlighted the lack of available advanced manufacturing capacity. To meet the demand, Laser Cutting NW was formed in 1998 with the first in-house laser and press brake. The initial goal was to support PACTS production, with excess capacity offered as a service.

2001: Resilience & Growth

  • 2001: Post-9/11, Laser Cutting NW became the core focus.
  • 2003: Moved to a new 30,000 sq. ft. facility in Auburn.
  • 2005: Purchased the Auburn building, solidifying roots.
  • 2012: Reinvested in automation and robotics, paving the way for next-generation manufacturing.

New Capabilities followed:

  • Laser automation
  • Robotic welding
  • Machining department
  • Full fabrication

2014-2017: A New Vision — The Rise of LCNW

In 2014, we rebranded from Laser Cutting NW to LCNW, reflecting a broader vision extending beyond just laser cutting and positioning the company as a regional leader in manufacturing.

By 2017, continued growth led to the purchase of neighboring property and the development of a multi-building modern manufacturing campus.

Today: LCNW’s Reach

Today, LCNW supports over a thousand customers-not just in the Pacific Northwest, but across the country and beyond. LCNW-built parts are integral to projects spanning industries, borders, and scales, from intricate architectural details in LA to aerospace components destined for Mars.

What sets LCNW apart is not just technical capability, but our approach to each challenge. With a culture of curiosity, deep manufacturing experience, and eagerness to tackle what others won’t, our team sees every job as a chance to improve, innovate, and deliver value beyond the cut line.

This mindset has grown LCNW from a single-capability shop to a full-service production partner and continues to attract customers who need not just parts, but a team that understands the big picture and builds toward it.
